The meeting examined what changes are required to combat the poverty, lack of access and discrimination that people with disabilities face. It also drew up a global call for action to ensure that persons with disabilities have full and equal enjoyment of all human rights. The call for action will be available to the public in July 2008. The conference was the second in a series of joint UN Regional Commission and Leonard Cheshire Disability global meetings on disability. It provided a platform for debate on policies, barriers to inclusion, best practice and the formulation of concrete strategies for the implementation of the UNCRPD. Panel sessions and workshops explored good practice and identified strategies for the implementation of the new Convention to combat the challenges of poverty, lack of access and discrimination. |
